Abstract :
The injection/extraction system of the 1.21-GeV SLC damping rings consists of four pairs of water-cooled septum magnets. Each pair consists of a thin-septum (3 mm), 3-kG magnet and a thick-septum (12 mm), 8-kG magnet. The septum magnets are identically built mirror image pairs. The magnet assembly consists of two magnets in tandem contained in a vacuum enclosure and located in a 2 m straight section of the ring. The authors report the design and manufacture of the magnets´ coils, cooling system and conductor electrical insulation used. Results of magnetic-field measurements made with two separate setups are discussed.
