Abstract :
We present a theoretical analysis of coherent microwave photonic filters (MPFs), which employ intensity modulation and direct detection. Expressions for the frequency dependent power gain are derived. The noise and distortion performance of MPFs is also analyzed. Two example filter implementations are given which provide a 100-MHz passband centered at 40 GHz.
