Abstract :
The transmission of plane polarized light through Fe3O4 particle magnetic fluids with different magnetic concentrations has been measured. The results show that the transmission coefficient increases with the field and tends to saturate with Langevin-type behavior similar to the magnetization of magnetic fluids. The results also show that the transmission coefficient increases with the magnetic strength and tends to saturate at higher fields for higher strengths. The effects of the optical path length and the surfactant content of the sample are also investigated.
