Abstract :
The magnetic and magnetooptical properties of UMn2Si2, UMn2Ge2 and the corresponding La compounds LaMn2Si2 and LaMn2Ge2 are investigated. All four compounds are ferromagnetic with Curie temperatures above room temperature. Measurements of the magnetooptical spectra of these compounds at room temperature showed that the Kerr effect in the U compounds is almost exclusively due to the U moments.
