Abstract
The role of humanistic studies in an engineering student´s academic development is discussed. It is argued that engineering students must be prepared to regard themselves as persons and part of the harsh and aggressive environment found outside the university walls. Four suggestions for integrating a nonpragmatic education into an engineering curriculum are presented.<>
