Abstract :
The aim of this paper was to investigate the influence of the dielectric liquid on reed capability and reed life. Experiments have been carried out for inductive currents in such dielectric liquids as liquid nitrogen and mineral oil. The reed resistance, electric strength of the gap, transient voltage across the gap during discharges have been measured, and the contact topography also was investigated. On the basis of these results, the conclusions relating to the electric discharge and erosion of the reed switch contacts in dielectric liquids are presented.
