Abstract :
The authors have studied a superconducting induction motor with Bi-2223/Ag HTS secondary conductors in the rotor. If the superconductor is applied to an induction motor, a higher efficiency and a higher power and a higher starting torque can be expected. The authors remodelled the rotor of a commercial 200 W (4 pole) induction motor and made an experimental HTS induction motor. The cast aluminum in the rotor slots were cut-in by 5 mm in depth and HTS tapes were put in the slots. Thus, the original conventional 200 W induction motor was remodeled to a HTS induction motor. The experimental motor was immersed in a liquid nitrogen bath. And, a no-load test, a locked test, a variable frequency locked test, and a load test of the HTS induction motor were carried out in liquid nitrogen bath. The experimental results are presented together with some theoretical analysis.
