Abstract :
Polymer concrete, Polysil, is a blend of aggregates bound together in an organic matrix. Its use as a composite dielectric material for high voltage and high stress operations is examined. Specifically, the design of a new type of dc suspension insulators using polymer concrete is described. It is produced by using low temperature processing methods so that metallic inserts can be cast in place during curing. The effects on the resultant electric field distributions are described by the use of computer field plots. The prospect of polymer concrete as a future insulating material is discussed.
