Abstract :
The importance of radio as applied to military aircraft is too self-evident to require extended comment. One of the most important functions of military aircraft is that of observing. In rapidly and accurately communicating at once the results of observation to a distant point lies the greatest value of obtaining such observations. Radio adds to this very great advantage that of being able to control the movements of aircraft from the ground or from other aircraft, and that of transmission of distress signals from disabled craft. This overview of the development of US naval aircraft radio covers its early development, standard naval aircraft and antenna constants, standard transmitting equipment - spark type, and then standard transmitting equipment - vacuum tube type.
