Abstract :
A rubber isostatic pressing (RIP) process is developed for high-performance magnets. The combination of high packing density of the powder in the rubber-mold cavity and magnetic alignment by a high, pulsed magnetic field is shown to be essential for obtaining good green compacts for sintered magnets having very high energy products. An automated apparatus to implement this technology is designed and constructed. The many advantages of RIP over conventional die pressing include faster, easier production of magnets with superior magnet properties
