Editorial

We wish to welcome you to this new journal being published under the auspices of the Electron Devices Society of the IEEE. Our goals are simple-to provide a media in which important new results in the field of electron devices can be disseminated to the readership in the shortest possible time. Original contributions are solicited which relate to the theory, design and performance of electron and ion devices, solid state devices, integrated electronic devices, optoelectronic devices and energy sources. The current schedule is that submissions accepted without needing revision will appear in the issue to be mailed two months from the end of the month in which they were received. This schedule requires that referees provide their report as rapidly as possible (a return 48 hours from receipt is requested) and that authors respond just as rapidly with revisions. To maintain high quality, it is hoped that referees will not let the tight timetable reduce the thoroughness of their evaluation. Authors must be responsible for providing a clearly understandable manuscript in which the important conclusions are pointedly emphasized. The price of speed, of course, will be that the high editorial standards of the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices will not always be achieved. It is hoped that this deficiency will be kept to a minimum and will not detract from the value of a peer reviewed, high speed Letters journal.
