Abstract :
The Navy Department´s policy of pursuing the development of vacuum tube transmitters and the reasons therefor are discussed. There are then outlined the performance requirements for apparatus of this type for Naval use and the considerations involved in its standardization. There are made some preliminary statements regarding standard equipment, including the discussion of ratings and circuits used. The standard apparatus for measuring antenna characteristics is described in detail. A brief review is given of the tubes used, the reasons for their selection, and some novel points regarding their operation. Some of the representative standard transmitters are then described, including 5, 150, 300, and 750-1,500 watt equipments. Consideration is also given to several recently developed remote control systems.
