Abstract
The dielectric breakdown characteristics of polyparabanic acid (PPA) film were investigated in a temperature range from 20 to 300°C, under square pulse conditions. The temperature dependence of the breakdown strength shows two distinct regions, referr-ed to as I (20-150°C) and II (150-300°C). In region I, the breakdown appears to be due to an electron avalanche mechanism. In region II, impulse thermal breakdown due to Poole-Frenkel effect of electrons appears to be a likely mechanism.
