Abstract :
The new phenomenon, called the quasi-magnetoelastic aftereffect, is described. It is found that in Sm(Fe1-xCox)2 Hn (n~0.1) compounds that the fast change in orientation of the magnetization initiates a slow change in the sample size. The deformation of the sample can achieve the value of 10-13. The induced magnetic anisotropy and the magnetic annealing effect also are observed in these compounds. The results are explained using the model of the orientational ordering of hydrogen atoms, which is caused by the magnetostrictive deformation of the crystal lattice
