Abstract :
A new distance sensor utilizing stepwise domain wall propagation caused by a pulse wire current train in a twisted magnetostrictive amorphous wire is presented. A 1000-mm long digital distance sensor having a nonlinearity of 0.5% FS and a simple construction is realized. The sensor characteristics are controlled by applying torsion. The stepwise domain wall propagation characteristics are compared with those for a steady state domain wall propagation
