Abstract :
The effect of a small addition of Ni or Nb on the magnetic properties of the amorphous Fe83Zr7B10 alloy was investigated. The alloy is considered to have a potential for high-frequency core applications owing to its high effective permeability of more than 2×104 and low coercive field. The addition of Ni or Nb of approximately 0.5-1.0 at.% is effective in increasing the effective permeability in the 10 kHz-1 MHz range and in reducing the saturation magnetostriction and magnetic core loss at frequencies up to 100 kHz. The improvement of the high-frequency soft magnetic properties in Fe-Zr-B-(Ni or Nb) quaternary alloys is attributed to the low magnetostriction and the reduced magnetic domain width
