Abstract
BaFe12-x-x´Mx M´x´O19 particles, with (M,M´) representing (Co,Sn), (Co,Mn), (Zn,Sn), (Zn,Sb) and (Zn,Mn) were prepared by a modified flux method using δ-FeOOH as a precursor and NaCl as the flux. The doping of (Co,Sn) or (Zn,Sn) effectively reduces both particle size and coercivity, while retaining high magnetization value. Hence BaFe11Co0.5Sn0.5O19 and BaFe 11Zn0.5Sn particles, which were calcined at 850°C to 950°C for four hours, have a coercivity of 650 to 1000 Oe, a saturation magnetization of 60 to 90 emu/g, and an average particle size of around 150 nm with fine platelet shape. They are thus potential candidates for high density recording media
