Abstract :
The relative effect of ramp profile and spindle speed on head-disk contact during rotary load/unload was examined using laser Doppler vibrometry and acoustic emission. At large radial loading velocities, the cycloidal ramp profile shows a significant reduction in the magnitude of the head-disk contact as compared to a standard inclined ramp profile. Spindle speed, by comparison, has only a small effect on head-disk contact
