Abstract :
The magnetic recording tape of a helical scan application is modeled as a circumferentially moving cylindrical shell. The model is solved numerically. Critical load speed of a point load is identified by investigating the flexural waves in the tape. This critical load speed is proportional to tape tension, tape thickness, and tape transport speed
