Abstract :
The generation of a statistically based algorithm to predict the amount of head-to-track misalignment at a specific bit error rate is described. The procedure is demonstrated by using data obtained on commercially available disk drives. Inputs are the measured on-track parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio, pulse width, and adjacent track crosstalk. The accuracy of the algorithm and the parameter sensitivities are discussed
