Abstract :
Icing of overhead power lines is a serious problem for electric utilities. Various deicing approaches have been developed. However, there is not an economical and effective deicing approach for bundled conductors of extra-high-voltage transmission systems yet. An elaborate deicing approach designed by field operators is introduced in this letter. With the reconfiguration of bundled conductors from parallel connection to series connection, the approach can increase current flow through conductors, melt ice, and prevent ice accumulation.
