  • Abstract
The trend toward smaller form factor in the magnetic disk storage industry is analyzed and discussed. Miniaturization is the result of small systems´ storage requirements and advances in magnetic recording technology. This has led to the creation of a scaling methodology for determining disk drive sizes. The authors describe the scaling methodology and use it to project potential future form factors. Some limiting characteristics of disk drives in these form factors are examined
