Abstract :
With a new administration in Washington, we need to focus attention on the nation\´s information technology infrastructure if we want to remain competitive in the global economy. Specifically, we need to extend our broadband network, implement a national health information network, build a new air traffic control system, create a "smart" electrical grid, and fix the Food and Drug Administration\´s monitoring system. We also need to increase our investment in research and technical education. A public/private partnership will be required to accomplish all this.
