Abstract :
Unidaq is lightweight UNIX based data-acquisition system. It relies on user selection of appropriate software and hardware for the problem at hand. The software is modularized such that the user may select as much or as little as may be needed. Currently, a buffer manager, various hardware drivers, software tools and example programs make up the package. It is installed and used in applications at KEK, LBL, the University of Michigan, Indiana University, the University of Toronto, the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and SSCL. Performance varies depending on the platform and the event size. Typical values range from a maximum of a few hundred Hz on a Sparc I to several KHz using VxWorks on an MVME167
