Abstract :
The frequency influences on both overwrite and reverse overwrite processes in a perpendicular recording scheme have been examined experimentally. It was found that the overwrite ratio decreases as the writing frequency of the background data pattern increases in a reverse overwrite process, completely deviating from the transition shift model. An important assessment of this paper is that the reverse overwrite process is a peculiar phenomenon in perpendicular recording, and an imprint effect plays a crucial role in such a reverse overwrite process. The obtained experimental data were explained by such an imprint effect, and the relevant practical implications are also discussed as well.
