Abstract
This paper discusses the key technologies that are enabling the transition from analog to digital interactive television. Also discussed is a proposed three-phase scenario for the U.S. deployment of interactive multimedia cable television systems during the remainder of the decade of the 1990s and some of the social implications of such networks
