Abstract :
An optical wavelength demultiplexer has been constructed on a planar waveguide using a pair of crossed gratings which have the same spatial frequency. The device is tunable and can separate spatially two channels 1.6 nm apart at 594.8 nm. Channel crosstalk is very low and the device can readily be cascaded.
