Abstract
Asynchronous transfer mode systems are noteworthy for their ability to transport different types of data over a variety of media and to do so at high speed. Their speed and flexibility, however, make ATM systems hard to test. The author describes how the high bandwidth and unusual flexibility that make the asynchronous transfer mode so attractive also raise barriers to testing it.<>
