Edge effects for resonance frequency of covered rectangular microstrip patch antenna

Edge effects using the variational method are calculated and included in the resonance frequency calculations of a rectangular patch antenna covered with a dielectric superstrate. These are compared with the reported experimental results and those based on available theoretical expressions. The calculations are found to more closely agree with reported experimental values.
