  • Abstract
A figure of merit-the worst-case processing loss-is defined to characterize a data window´s influence on the detection of a tone in broadband noise using the discrete Fourier transform. The minimum loss is close to -3 dB and occurs when the window´s normalized second moment is about 1/5
