Abstract :
A general theoretical model is established for tunable semiconductor lasers with a built-in co-directional grating-assisted vertical coupler filter. Possible internal reflection at the gain-coupler junction is considered and simple expressions for the lasing wavelengths/threshold gain derived. Mechanisms affecting the longitudinal mode selectivity are examined.<>
