Abstract
Prior measurements of wave polarization made at the lower transmission frequencies have uniformly shown vertical electric force at all distances from the transmitter. The present work extends such measurements to the higher frequencies, where it was found that the electric force at any considerable distance from the transmitter was no longer vertical, but, instead, predominantly horizontal. Comparative measurements were also made of radiation alternately horizontally and vertically polarized at the source, which indicated that the ratio of horizontal to vertical electric field depended only upon the frequency, distance and time of day, being substantially independent of the plane of polarization at the transmitter.
