Abstract :
A novel approach using bandstop filtering and preclipping is presented that can greatly reduce the BER degradation due to clipping noise in AM/QAM hybrid lightwave systems. It is shown that the recurrence of the signal tips by the lowpass filter of previous preclipping systems can be largely suppressed, resulting in much lower actual clipping noise.
