Abstract
For any given set of coefficient values for a second-order recursive digital filter, it is shown how to determine explicitly the periods of the forced response at which overflow oscillations can be sustained. The techniques that ate presented (which have quite general applicability) show for the first time how the concept of a P0 matrix can be used to advantage in the study of nonlinear effects in digital filters.
