Abstract :
The recently proposed fast packet switch for BISDN, called the tandem banyan switching fabric, achieves the performance of an output-buffered switch. To attain a low packet loss rate, however, it may be necessary to use many banyan networks connected in series. It is shown that the number of banyan networks can be substantially reduced by using dilated banyans to attain the same performance.
