Abstract :
The optical loss increase of a fractured optical fibre splice is investigated experimentally. The loss increase of the fractured part caused by tensile stress and bending stress is small, whereas that caused by twisting stress is large. This result shows that optical transmission is possible in spite of the fibre fracturing at the splice.
