Abstract :
Mobile telecommunication has become an indispensable part of our daily lives. Accordingly, we should expect an increasing number of base stations for better signal reception. There are always concerns on the impact of electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure on human bodies, especially at living spaces in close proximity to the base stations. EMF generated by a base station changes with time because of the variation of user traffic. Ali Riza ??ZDEM??R and Mehmet G??L??EN from the Information and Communications Technologies Authority, and Mustafa Alkan from the Gazi University Faculty of Technology, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering address the time-dependence characteristic of EMF emitted by a base station in the first paper, ??Time Dependence of Environmental Electric Field Measurements and Analysis of Cellular Base Stations.?? They measure EMF levels around the GSM mobile base stations continuously over a period of four months and the measurement results are analyzed on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Comparisons are made against limits set by the International Commission on Non Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNI RP) for EMF exposure risk assessment.
