Abstract :
For several years the author has been questioned as to the cost of electricity in isolated plants and frequently the statement was volunteered that "of course the central statioil supply can offer much better terms." He has partially investigated the conditions existing in over a hundred buildings of various sizes and types, and as the subject is one of general interest to engineers and laymen. This work embodies the results and the hope that the discussion thereof, will bring additional figures of value. The article confines itself to a few typical buildings, which the author knows all about; these are then discussed in detail, rather than to tabulate figures more or less accurate from a large number of buildinigs, where all the conditionis were not obtainable.
