Abstract :
Presents a new algorithm for the estimation of the frequency of a single sinusoid in white noise, based on the computation of the interval between zero crossings. It is shown that for a high signal-to-noise ratio, the output error spectrum is concentrated in the high-frequency region. Theoretically, the desired precision can be achieved using a proper low-pass filter. The spectrum of the error due to the interpolation of the zero crossing is computed. Simulation results show that a precision of 10-7-10-8 can be obtained with modest computational effort
