Abstract
Experiments demonstrating the effect of nitrogen on electron-beam pumped XeF(
) and Xe2 Cl laser performance are reported. The laser power of the XeF(
) laser decreased with increasing nitrogen pressure, whereas the Xe2 Cl laser power increased by a factor of three at an optimum nitrogen pressure of 200 torr. Atomic absorptions in both laser spectra are decreased by the addition of nitrogen. The kinetic mechanisms leading to the observed behavior are discussed.
