Abstract :
In this communication, we show that nonuniform density distributions of absorbing dyes in solution may be achieved using optically induced transport effects. Expressions are given which relate the intensity pattern of the light to the steady-state density profile. Using this method, permanent periodic concentrations could be produced for a variety of applications, including flash-pumped solid-matrix dye lasers.
