Abstract :
Replacing the rod in a Nd:YAG laser with a zig-zag slab resulted in a very substantial reduction of the thermally induced optical distortion without sacrifice of output power or efficiency. This reduction was possible after simple measures were taken to eliminate end and edge effects.
