Abstract :
The possibility of using direct modulation without chromatic dispersion compensation, in long distance unrepeatered systems over pure silica core fibre, has been investigated. 2.5 Gbit/s transmission on such a low cost configuration has been demonstrated on 385 km of pure silica core fibre (412 km with forward error correction)
