Abstract :
The representation of two-dimensional data by parameterized base functions is considered. The common practice of placing the base functions at arbitrary grid points may cause significant inaccuracies. This paper suggests a placement technique which takes into account the local characteristics of the data and the radial structure of the base functions. The representation problem becomes linear and can be solved by standard techniques.
