Abstract :
We introduce the concept of short- and long-range surface magnetoplasmon polariton (SMP) modes which propagate along a thin metal film imbedded between two identical magnetic semiconductors and interact with an externally applied magnetic field. The external magnetic field is shown to destroy the spatial symmetry of the interaction, resulting in a dramatic decrease of the range of the long-range mode. We present the dispersion-equation and the optical electric and magnetic fields of the modes in the presence of the external magnetic field, and discuss the physics that gives rise to the enhanced interaction.
