Abstract :
Approximate expressions quantifying performance expectations for LMS adaptive echo cancellers using single-bit correlation multipliers are derived. Linear coefficient coding is assumed at first. The analysis is then extended to quantify the potential improvements obtainable through the use of companded coefficient coding schemes and the addition of simple midtread quantizing features. All derivations are supported by results generated via a computer simulation. Work in this area can lead to the design of sampled analog echo cancellers which require no A/D converters.
