Abstract :
In an ongoing research effort, several multifilament niobium titanium composite billets have been fabricated and processed to make SSC (Superconducting Super Collider) wire. Critical current densities of 3000 A/mm2±5% and 2950 A/mm2±5% (5 T, 4.2 K, 10-14 Ω-m) have been achieved in wires containing 6.5- and 4.8-μm-diameter filaments, respectively. Piece length and suitability for cable are addressed
