Abstract :
In this paper we present a new method, without using the eigenstructure of the sensor covariance matrix, for estimating the number of sources d and the direction-of-arrival of sources based on the matrix decomposition. This method uniformly handles coherent and noncoherent sources alike. In our procedure a number p is calculated and used for determination of the maximum number of distinguishable sources by a given linear array system.
