Abstract :
Beam radiation from tapered waveguides is studied theoretically using the intrinsic mode approach. The field distribution across the beam, beam width, and angle made by the beam with interface to the tapered waveguide substrate, important parameters in coupling devices, are studied. Finally, some of our theoretical results are compared to measurements made on optical coupling devices.
