Abstract :
The ubiquity of air conditioning and cooling systems, the ban on refrigerant release to the environment, and the high energy required by the refrigerant decomposition process give good opportunity for a novel technology to deliver a "like new" recycled refrigerant. In this paper we present several electrostatic processes at the heart of this technology: tribocharging the recovered mix of oil and refrigerant; the oil is removed by an electrostatic filter; a Faraday ring sensor monitors filter efficiency. A portable system prototype incorporating these technologies was built..
